Saturday Walk in the Neighborhood with Lili

You can see our little white house down the beach. These guys were here for awhile and then went back to California for the winter.
We walked by this house on the boardwalk...a few doors down from us...
Lili is posing on a log...on one of the beaches we came across during our walk...No, no bear today!
This is our next door neighbor. He is a bear guide. In fact, he was skinning a big male brown bear shot by his client a few days ago. The kids all went over to watch him...and "talk bear"...
This is two doors down from us. They are a really great couple who have been living here for years. They have a small shop that sells things. The kids are always searching for change to go buy a candy bar! I ran out of "real" money a week ago...So, Lili hasn't been able to go down...

Almost Ready to Move In

We have eaten dinner two times in our "new" kitchen...We have almost all of our food and dishes there...Still need to work on the bedrooms though...

Quaint, but old-fashioned bathroom..
We're making a dent in everything that was piled in the front room. It is long and skinny (about 7' x 25'), but has a full wall of window looking out to the beach...full sun exposure too!
Alonzo was digging up buckets of beach gravel for the front pathway, so that we don't track mud into the house...Here you can see all of the windows facing the water...

Going to a Birthday Party

Carson, Alonzo, and Lilian had to wait at the Front Dock for their ride to the birthday party...
THIS was their "ride"!....I took a kayak across. It was such a beautiful day, and I wanted my own transportation..that way I could leave when I wanted to...
This was the birthday house. It was Mary's 11th birthday. Shanna, her mom, is the school classroom aide. Shanna, Mary's mom, has lived here since she was born. Shanna's parents and brother and sister-in-law also live here in Port Alexander....In fact, they live just down the boardwalk, on side B.
Here are some of the kids playing a birthday guessing game.

Kids at School

Here is Alonzo. He is getting ready for his morning Geometry VTC (Video Tele-Conferencing) class. He has English, Geometry, Alaska Studies/Civics, and Biology using this method of instruction.
Here are a few of the kids playing Badmitten during P.E. time in our gym.

Carson, Lili, and Alonzo are playing on their laptops in the 'elementary' side of the classroom. Usually, Carson is over on the other side and Alonzo is in the VTC room. This side is used primarily for the three students in grades 4 and 5.

Mail Day

Lili was excited! She got a package from her friend Megan M. in Ketchikan.
Here is a picture to show the Post Office. It is about 12' x 15', with a back room for sorting the mail. Most of the packages are just put in the lobby for their owners to come pick them up at their own leisure. No, the Post Office is not locked. Who would want someone else's mail??
Carson, Shelsea and Lili eagerly wait in line at the front window...waiting to see if anything came for them..
Another shot of the Post Office. It is on the waterfront, as the mail and packages are loaded onto a skiff at the dock, brought over, unloaded onto the beach, and then carried up to the back door of the P.O.  Some people bring their skiff's to the P.O. to get their mail. So, they park behind it as well...

Outside Our Home in Port Alexander

The first three photos are of the outside of "Grandma Nita's" House. There are a few "outbuildings" that are for fuel, tools, and the generator. The outside of the house will get resided and painted this next spring. Mark has been working on drywalling and flooring the attic room for the girls. We should move in by the end of September.

Guess Who Came For Dinner?

One evening last week, I was walking on the boardwalk and "ran into" a diving friend of Mark's from Ketchikan. He didn't think I remembered him, as I just starred. I did, but wasn't expecting "company"!...Ha! Reid Hawkins, from southern California stopped by with his son...just to say Hi! and have dinner! It totally made our day!
